13th January 2023 - Newton
Introduction
When we visited Newton previously, the village sign was a sad wooden post:
A cycle ride to Newton yesterday (30km) revealed that a new sign had just been installed - and it has C III for King Charles III.

3rd July 2022 - Holywell cum Needingworth
Introduction
We visited Needingworth on 16 May 2021 when the sign was away for repair. It has been replaced with a new sign. This is sign number 133.
Holywell cum Needingworth
Farmer picking fruit and farmer ploughing with a horse drawn plough. Two old buildings and a millstone. The sign is a reproduction of the sign from 1996 celebrating the 75th anniversary of the WI. The original sign is shown at https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/3446938.
One of the buildings is the village lock up dated 1838.

22nd June 2022 - Castle Camps, Shudy Camps, Horseheath and West Wickham
Introduction
We cycled out via Linton for coffee and on to Castle Camps (129th) back to Shudy Camps (130th) after a bit of a search. We went via two hamlets and a navigation error to Horseheath (131st) and then on to West Wickham (132nd). We returned via Balsham for lunch. About 64k (40 miles).
Castle Camps
The sign depicts a castle, the church, a De Havilland Mosquito from WWII and a farmer ploughing with a horse.

Shudy Camps
The sign is made of metal. It shows a plough, ER and a crown and the date 1996.Mill Green and Cardinal's Green
We went through these two hamlets which are part of Horseheath I think.
Horseheath
A splendid marble base with four sides.
The side above shows the coat of arms of the Dimsdale family.
Another side says "This sign depicts the 1834 Derby winner Plenipotentiary bred and trained at Horseheath Lodge. The two crowns represent the visits to Horseheath of Queen Elizabeth I in 1578 and of King George V in 1912 to review his troops who were taking part in Army manouvres in the area"
The third side has the family crest of the Marshall family.
The fourth side says "This sign was presented to the village by Sir Arthur Marshall, Knight, of Horseheath Lodge in memory of his wife Rosemary Wynford, Lady Marshall 1908-1988"
West Wickham
A metal sign showing wheatsheafs, the windmill, the church and a WWII areoplane probably an Avro Lancaster.

15th June 2022 - Little Walden and Hadstock in Essex
Introduction
Cycle to Saffron Walden and back via Linton using the B1052. Little Walden (127th) and Hadstock (128th)
Little Walden
Metal sign with crown - dated 2000. Silhouettes of airplanes, birds and animals. Nearby memorial to Little Walden Aerodrome in both World Wars.
Hadstock
Sign inclues church, old barn, tractor farming and USAF airforce base.
Sign on the post: "This sign was erected in 2004 funded by donations from Hadstock residents and Essex Rural Renaissance Fund grant."

29th September 2021 - Wentworth, Coveney, Witcham, Mepal (just post) and Sutton in the Isle
Introduction
A windy day with a west/south west breeze ranging from 10 to 20 knots. We cycled north through Histon, Cottenham and Wilburton to Wentworth (123rd) for the first sign. On to Coveney (124th) and then Witcham (125th). Mepal just had a post and then cycle on the old road to Sutton in the Isle (126th). We slogged down the busy B1381 road along the Hundref Foot Drain (which gave us some shelter from the wind) to Earith Bridge and then to Willingham. We cycled down the B1050 road to the busway cycle path and home with the wind finally behind us. About 68 km (42 miles).
Wentworth
Single sided wooden sign showing just the name. EIIR 1952 1977 in cross keys.
Coveney
Single sided wooden sign. WI on post. Nearby information board: "Coveney was first recorded in 1060AD, when Ely Priory allowed Aethelswyth, a Saxon noblewoman, to retire here in return for her property in Stetchworth. She settled at Coveney with her maidens to work on embroidery and weaving, Aethelswyth is shown on the village sign hodeing her needlework, together with one of the watchkeepers of Wardy Hill".
Witcham
Double sided wooden sign. WI on post. Trees with man leading hay wagon.
Old fire pump with two men. Building behind.
Stone plaque on base. "Presented to WITCHAM PARISH COUNCIL to Commemorate The Diamond Jubilee of the WITCHAM W.I. 4th June 1980.

8th September 2021 - Kennett, Chippenham, Freckenham (Suffolk), Isleham, Fordham, Soham, Stuntney
Introduction
For the first time we used the train to increase our range. We took the Bromptons for their first train journey from Cambridge to Kennett. We cycled from the station to Kennett village (116th) and then to , Chippenham (117th), Freckenham (Suffolk) (118th), Isleham (119th) with an fine church with excellent brasses (we had to ask to find that the sign was on the road leading to Fordham), Fordham (120th), Soham (121st) and Stuntney (122nd) and then on to Ely where we had lunch and caught the train back to Cambridge. About 34.5km (21 miles) from Kennett to Ely.
Kennett
Double sided carved wood sign. Both sides the same. The central image is a tree with a jousting lance piercing the trunk. Church on the left and a house (?) on the right. Date 2000.Chippenham
A brand new sign by J.S.Brunton - dated 2021. A single sided carved wood sign. The main image is of a Knight of St John of Malta on horseback. Walnut trees, church and village meeting place or shelter.
Freckenham (Suffolk)
Single sided carved wood sign. Viking long boat and insignia. Farmer with tractor ploughing. Church. Norman Castle ( from wikipedia ... is believed to have destroyed the village's castle, of which only the motte mound remains. )Isleham
